The examination consists of the MBE (Wednesday) and a written essay and performance test (Tuesday). All Class B applicants must take all portions of the exam.
Essay portion: • 9 short questions (5 in the morning session and 4 in the afternoon) • Total time alloted: 3 hours, 45 minutes (an average of 25 minutes per question) • Answer to each question must use no more than front and back of 8 1/2 x 11 answer sheet
MBE portion:
• Business Associations (Agency, Partnership, and Corporations) • Civil Procedure (may include CO state law issues) • Commercial Transactions (including Secured Transactions, Sales, Negotiable Instruments) • Contracts • Criminal Law and Procedure • Evidence • Family Law (may include CO state law issues) • Public Law (including Constitutional and Administrative Law) • Real Property • Torts
Performance test score equals approximately 40% of the total combined essay/PT score (one PT question is worth the same as about three essays). Point totals are equated and added to arrive at a raw total. The raw score total is scaled to the MBE on a 200 point scoring range and then added to the MBE scale score. The formula for determining the total bar exam score is: MBE Scale Score + (Essay Scale Score + PT Scale Score) = Bar Exam Score
Passing score--276 scale points (of a possible 400)
